The Earth Council
The mission of the Earth Council is to support and empower people in building a more secure, equitable and sustainable future. The Earth Council is an international non-governmental organization (NGO) that was created in September 1992 to promote and advance the implementation of the Earth Summit agreements. It is led by a body of 18 Members, drawn from the world's political, business, scientific and non-governmental communities. Sixteen eminent world leaders serve as Honorary Members, and an 18 member Earth Council Institute functions as an advisory board. Three fundamental objectives have guided the work of the Earth Council since its inception:

Spirituality & Health: Spiritual Practices for Human Being
1. The Alphabet of Spiritual Literacy by Frederic and Mary Ann Brussat: http://www.spiritualityhealth.com/newsh/items/blank/item_2913.html
spiritual practices from all traditions . . .the letters you need to know to read the world spiritually and to spell meaning in daily life . . .2. E-course: Spiritual Literacy in Wartime, led by Fred & Mary Ann Brussat. http://www.spiritualityhealth.com/newsh/items/ecourse/item_5489.html
How can we live a spiritual life every day in wartime, in a world of heightened separations between people, between humans and nature, men and women, rich and poor, old and young? How can we find the presence of God amidst fear, tension, and conflict? Through practice. Joseph Campbell once said that a literature of the spirit should be read alongside the daily news. We need to know what is happening in our world, and we need to affirm through practice that the news does not have the last word.
"Spiritual Literacy in Wartime" will give you a selection of these resources: excerpts, practices, teaching stories, advice from sages, rituals, essays, poems, scenes from movies, prayers, examples from the lives of saints and bodhisattvas, counsel from the dying, inspiring quotations, vows, blessings, mantras, visualizations, sermons, grace notes, gathas, and much more. We'll present some of this material in brief meditations; for the rest, we will provide links.
"Spiritual Literacy in Wartime," unlike our other e-courses, will continue indefinitely, and you are welcome to join at any time. A running index of the material will be maintained on the website....We believe that intentional spiritual practice can change the world. Let's go through this together.3. Index of Spiritual Literacy in Wartime: http://www.spiritualityhealth.com/newsh/lists/pth_newsitem.html
By reading excerpts revealing the wisdom of the world's religions and by working with spiritual practices, we are exploring how to live a spiritual life in times of heightened separation. This index contains brief descriptions and links to the emails that have already gone out, listed with the most recent first.4.
